One of My Favorite Things

Some days are good chasing days and some are not. Today was a good day. The lines weren't jagged and my hands were in good shape to work. Every texture mark you see in this image is made by a single hammer blow on a chasing tool.  The heavier lines are chased in by moving the tool and hammering as it moves.  The hammer blows and tool movement is coordinated so we have no jagged or depth variation in the lines. My Favorite Hammer

Some of you may have seen pictures of my beautiful chasing hammer over the years.  I call it Princess and have used it nearly every day for 6 years and it developed a crack in the handle.  I was horrified. If you have seen our website or social media over the years you may have seen my beautiful hammer handle.  It is Osage Orange - sometimes called Bodark.  It is extremely hard - so hard that when a fence post is set, it is usually set green because the staples won't go in. That Sycamore Tree

The Sycamore tree just outside my window is beginning to lose its leaves for fall.   One of the interesting things about the leaves of the Sycamore is that the leaves vary widely in size from as small as 2" to as large as    I found a leaf that looked just like a bowl to me.  Leaf bowls are my absolute favorite things to make.  So I just had to make one, but of course much bigger. Sweet Inspiration - Grape Leaves

Muscadine grades grow wild in the southern states. They can be red, black or amber colored.  The skin Is tough but he grapes are amazingly sweet.  They don't grow in clusters, but each one grows from a main stem.   The leaves have such a beautiful shape that we can’t resist the inspiration to make pieces using the grape leaf.
